Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox® or Botulinum toxin, also called botulinum neurotoxin, is a medical-grade injectable cosmetically used to reduce the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Botox smoothes the treated skin by relaxing muscles associated with lines formed by repeated facial expressions. Botulinum toxin can also be used medically to treat certain muscle conditions.

The procedure is simple and offers fantastic anti-aging results without downtime. Dr. Kahan administers all Botox injections.

Dr. Kahan also offers other injections like Xeomin® and Dysport®.

What are the advantages of Botox?

Botox injections are noted primarily for their ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They also treat an overactive bladder, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), neck spasms, cervical dystonia, and lazy eye. The injections might also help to prevent chronic migraines.

Additional benefits you can take advantage of when choosing Botox at SheMD include:

  • Fewer laugh, smile, and frown lines
  • Minimized forehead lines
  • Tighter, smoother, more lifted skin
  • Reductions in crow’s feet
  • Self-confidence
  • A more youthful-looking appearance

When choosing Botox, there’s no need for pain, surgery, or downtime.

Is Botox the proper treatment for me?

Dr. Kahan discusses your medical history, treatment preferences, desired results, and goals. She examines your skin in problem areas before customizing a Botox treatment tailored to your needs and goals.

In addition to Botox, you may also be a good candidate for fillers.

What happens during Botox treatment?

Before receiving Botox injections, your provider cleans the affected skin. She uses a small needle to inject botulinum toxin beneath your skin in targeted tissues. Each injection takes just a minute or two, and your provider often completes multiple injections during each treatment session.

What should I expect after a Botox treatment?

After undergoing Botox, the treated areas are temporarily tender, swollen, or red. It’s recommended to avoid touching the treatment area during your healing process.

During the next few days, after the effects of Botox appear, you will notice more youthful-looking skin and reduced signs of aging.

Botox effects typically last about 3-5 months, but every patient is different. Repeat injections provide you with lasting outcomes.
