A wellness visit is when a healthy patient is seen to screen for various illnesses and diseases; this is considered preventative. A problem visit is one where the patient has a specific concern, symptom or complaint.

In gynecology, a wellness visit is also referred to as a well woman visit, and consists of a breast and pelvic exam, and depending on the patient’s needs may also include cervical cancer screening (pap smear), screening for sexually transmitted infections, and discussing birth control options. Lab tests may or may not be covered. Any issue beyond that, such as pain, abnormal bleeding, vaginal discomfort, etc, will need to be discussed at a separate visit. This is unfortunately due to the limitations that health insurance companies have placed on providers.

We are required to submit claims based on the services you receive. Depending on your insurance coverage, some or all of the cost may have to be billed to the patient. We recommend you contact your insurance carrier prior to each visit and inquire about the type of benefits you have.

As is the norm with aesthetic procedures, insurance does not cover these services, and payment is due at the time of service. Regarding gynecology services, we do take a limited number of insurances and co-pays are due at the time of service. For those without participating plans, we help you navigate reimbursement by providing you with the appropriate codes and receipts for submission to your insurance company. Please check with your insurance company as they differ as far as this type of coverage.

Your appointment time is reserved for you. If you cannot keep your appointment, please contact our office so we can reserve that time for someone else. If you do not show up for an appointment, or fail to provide 24 hours notice of cancellation, you will be charged $75.

For all medical emergencies you should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For all other urgent matters, you may send a text to (929) 538-3456 or send a message to Dr. Kahan through the patient portal. All messages will be responded to within 24 hours. Routine prescription refills will only be filled during regular business hours. Please make sure your pharmacy information is included in your message.
